SON’S City Reentry Management Systems
March 19, 2008
SON’S City Reentry
Management Systems (SCRMS) has applied for a grant through the Workforce
Investment Act (WIA) division of the Employment Development Department
(EDD).
The grant is to assist prisoner
reentrants successfully rejoin society and particularly learn employment
skills to offer them opportunities to attain viable employment and
adequate health care for themselves and their families.
The grant was submitted in October,
2006 and is for $433,000.
We have not heard anything from the
funding source yet but are praying and hopeful.
We are also working with a longtime
colleague to attempt to acquire funding from both The California
Endowment,
with whom we’ve worked in another
organization past, and the James Irvine Foundation.
The funds we are requesting would be
used as start-up funds to help us during our planning and development
stages.
These times would include Board and
staff recruitment, development and training.
We are asking for from 50 to 100
thousand dollars.
Finally, under resources and funding; we
are writing a grant to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
to fund a Peer to Peer Counseling service for people in recovery.
This grant could extend over a four
year period and matches exactly the work we are currently set up to do
along with our mainstay activities that specifically apply to prisoner
reentrants.
As
you can see, SCRMS is quite busy and are prepared operationally to move
forward when any of the aforementioned resources become available.
We will be looking for highly skilled
employees in the areas of case management and outreach coordination.
Be vigilant in keeping up with this web
site.
There is a great future waiting to
manifest here.
We believe it because God ordained it.
God bless you.
